Sports Medicine Innovations in Combat Athletes

Move Better...Perform Better...Last Longer!

This has always been my moto.  25+ years of sports medicine practice, 15+ in sports technologies and 10 years in research, I am always looking for ways to advance what I  do and we do as a profession in ACL Rehab.  By implementing the latest in sports medicine research and innovations in sports medicine technologies, we can provide our athletes with the better outcomes and preserve future joint health.  Not the newest fad but proven technology that can be implemented into clinical practice and sports settings that makes a real and measurable difference in the lives and performance of our athletes.

This page is dedicated to another major passion of mine, combat athletes.  Although many professional sports have access to this kind of information and technologies, traditionally this has not migrated down to the combat athlete.  Combat Athlete Science Institute, is devoted to providing combat athletes with access to these technologies and science along with protocol and programs which, when implemented, can reduce injuries and improve performance in such a demanding sport.

Experience Matters!

In Sports Medicine, experience matters. Especially for combat athletes. With over 25 years sports medicine practice, 20 years in injury prevention research, 15 years treating combat athletes and 10 years training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Dr. Nessler brings a different perspective to the treatment and care of combat athletes. When it comes to getting you back on the mat and back in the fight this experience makes a difference.

Practical Experience

As a sports medicine physical therapist for 25 years, I have devoted my career to preventing injuries in athletes.  As an innovator of movement technology, which is used across the globe and in professional sports, as a researcher with access to the largest movement data base in the world and as combat athlete myself, my goal is to bring that same level of science and experience to the combat athlete.  I provide athletes and those who treat combat athletes with the latest research, technologies and techniques which can be applied in your gym or as a part of your training routine to help you stay on the mats, in the fight and performing at a higher level!

Hear What Combat Athletes Are Saying About
Dr. Trent Nessler

Dr. Trent has helped me on several occasions when it comes to Jiu Jitsu related injuries. It is hard to trust anyone these days especially when others do not know your situation or sport. I am a BJJ athlete, compete internationally have suffered a lot of injuries. If I listened to most docs, I would not be on the mats. Dr. Trent is a high level BJJ athlete, understands this sport and how to get BJJ athletes back in the game. I have worked with him remotely through his telemedicine and he has not only helped me expedite my recovery but I am also a better athlete as a result. Highly recommend Dr. Trent

Dr. Trent Nessler is a phenomenal physical therapist. It’s very unusual to see a PT with his level of medical accreditation, his vast nutritional knowledge, and his unconventional but effective injury rehabilitation methods. This rare combination lends itself to an extremely efficient, pain-free experience. Dr. Nessler is also a high level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, as well as an avid weightlifter of +40 years. After suffering a biceps rupture, Dr. Nessler got me back on the mats in only 2.5 months. I was back competing at the Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt level, medically cleared by all associated therapists, surgeons, and doctors. Any one of the above reasons is reason enough to trust Dr. Nessler with your athletic future, but his greatest attribute is his level of compassion. As a health care professional and athlete himself, you will find no one who will do more to get you back on the mat as soon as possibly and as safely as possible.

Having trained and competed in several sports, I can say definitively that having a PT who understands the demands on the athlete is paramount. Especially in a sport like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Trent embodies this as he is an athlete himself. There is a vast difference between book knowledge and real-world experience. Trent's passion, is to bring an athlete back to peak performance. This is no more important, but it is different than bringing a sedentary person back to a level of comfort. I've certainly benefited from having been treated by Trent and can't recommend him enough.
